Lynn Belleus

Lynn Belleus is a Canadian contemporary visual artist known for her highly detailed acrylic portraits that explore identity, emotion, and the complexities of human expression. Born in Montreal to Haitian parents and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, her work celebrates the beauty and individuality of mostly black subjects through a distinctive approach to realism.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Belleus combines meticulous technique with a contemporary visual aesthetic. Her portraits are distinguished by their luminous skin tones, intricate textures, and striking interplay of light and reflection. Her evolving body of work incorporates reflective chrome surfaces, metallic elements, and jewel-like details, creating visually compelling portraits that invite viewers to look beyond the surface.

Before pursuing art professionally, Belleus studied Interior Design at Algonquin College and spent several years working in the technology sector. Although drawing had been a passion since childhood, it wasn't until 2019, following a major surgery and a period of recovery, that she returned to art with renewed purpose. What began as a personal reconnection with creativity gradually developed into a dedicated professional practice.

Entirely self-taught as a painter, Belleus has refined her approach through years of experimentation, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Each original painting is developed through a meticulous, multi-layered process, often requiring dozens of hours to achieve the depth, precision, and realism that characterize her work.

At the heart of her practice is a fascination with the emotions that exist beneath outward appearances. Through subtle expressions, carefully considered compositions, and symbolic visual elements, Belleus explores themes of vulnerability, self-perception, emotional distance, and quiet strength.

Today, her original paintings and fine art prints are held in private collections internationally.
